April is Native Plant month, and what a perfect time to start planning your pollinator garden! Marsha Hayward of the Alberta Native Plant Council has joined us this month with resources and guides to get you ready for Spring planting.

The Alberta Native Plant Council has many resources and suggestions to help gardeners learn about growing native plants and where to source them for your pollinator garden!

Don’t know where to start? You can start learning by visiting “Growing Native Plants” on the ANPC website. Here you can find a Native Plant Source List. This excel file is a comprehensive guide with MULTIPLE native seed options and native plant resources available for purchase. You can use this list to find native plants the Alberta Native Bee Council recommends for native bees and other pollinators! Once you have decided what to plant you can head to “Guidelines for Purchasing and Using Wildflower Seed Mixtures” to find information and tips from gardeners who have used native seed in their gardens.

Want a challenge? You can find information about joining the 2023 ANPC Native Plant Pollinator Garden Challenge by clicking this link. This is a fun way to join a community of native plant enthusiasts and learn valuable information about starting your pollinator garden.

Do you belong to a gardening group?

Small grants of up to $1000 are available through the ANPC to support small-scale native plant projects for those interested in growing a publicly accessible native plant garden. Learn more by visiting “ANPC Small Grants” page.

Happy Spring and Happy Planting!
